Thorn's QBA LED luminaire brings energy efficiency for memorial
The City of Palmerston in Australia's Northern Territory required an energy efficient LED lighting solution to illuminate the Cenotaph and the decommissioned famous warhorse – the Leopard Tank in Memorial Park. Eggins Electrical, therefore enquired directly with Thorn Lighting for an efficient LED lighting solution.
Solar area lighting was already in use in the Memorial Park so Eggins Electrical sought a solution which could also be operated using solar energy.
After testing on-site, Eggins Electrical chose Thorn's QBA LED luminaire because of its compact size, high lumen output and low wattage (27W). These benefits made it ideal for the existing solar panel battery system.
12vdc to 240vac inverter provides the power to use existing infrastructure
With QBA LED being a 240vac supply light source, Eggins Electrical came up with the idea of using a 12vdc to 240vac inverter to power the QBA LED unit. This in turn ensured a great result for the City of Palmerston by using existing infrastructure.
The memorial is now illuminated in such a way that it looks stunning against the beautiful colours of the Australian sunset and sunrise backdrops. The stunning Darwin skyline in particular gives a magnificent background to this unique lighting solution.
Rod Eggins from Eggins Electrical says: "I'm delighted the Thorn representative came on-site to trial various LED light fittings. It was during the trial that the solar supply idea was formed due to the good results from QBA LED and its low energy consumption.
"No matter how unique and complex your lighting needs, Thorn will work with you and your customers to find a solution."
